QUOTES TO QUOTE
Anyone who believes exponential growth can go on forever in a finite world is either a madman or an economist.

A Quote from Princess Diana, The Courier Mail 1 Nov 1996,
"For Evil to triumph, good men must do nothing".

"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proberb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'press on' has solved, and always will solve, the problems of the human race."
Calvin Coolidge. (ex president of USA)
Ours is the first generation forced
to recognise that our world is a finite sphere.
For us the sustainability question is a simple one.
Do we continue to manage this country as if we were just passing through, or do we start to think and act as if we were here to stay, for good?
Only after the last tree has
been cut down
Only after the last river has been poisoned
Only after the last fish has been caught
Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.
Cree Indian Prophecy
The reasonable man adapts himself to suit his environment. An unreasonable man persists in attempting to adapt his environment to suit himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
George Bernard Shaw.
"There is no real independence
where there is denial or
restriction of function, relevance, access, information or
resources. As I have just suggested, qualified independence means
limited effectiveness and is likely to result in qualified
accountability. Most would agree this is not a desirable outcome."
- Mr Pat Barrett AM, Auditor-General of Australia
at the Australian
Society of CPA's Annual Research Lecture 14 November 1996, Canberra.
Great minds discuss ideas;
Average minds discuss events;
Small minds discuss people.

Because light travels
Faster than sound
Some people appear bright
until they speak.
Being defeated is often only a temporary condition.
Giving up is what makes it permanent.
-- Marlene vos Savant 1946-NA
In the beginning was the Plan
And then came the assumptions;
And the assumptions were without form,
And the plan was completely without substance
And the darkness was upon the faces of the residents;
And they spoke unto their group leaders, saying:
"The plan is a crock of shit and it stinks."
And the group leaders went unto their Councillors and said:
It is a pail of dung and none may abide the odour thereof."
And the Councillors went unto their Chief Executive Officer and said unto him:
It is a container of excrement and it is very strong such that none here may abide it."
And the Chief Executive Officer went unto the Mayor and said unto him:
It is a Vessel of fertiliser and none may abide its strength."
And the Mayor went unto the Minister and said:
It contains that which aids plant growth and is very strong."
And the Minister went to the Premier and said unto him:
"It promotes growth and is very powerful."
And the Premier went unto the Prime Minister and said unto him:
"This powerful new Plan will actively promote the growth and efficiency of the Shire and our areas in particular."
And the Prime Minister looked upon the Plan and saw that it was good.
And the Plan became the Policy.
