SEQ 2021 Regional Plan

So what has the SEQ 2021 Regional Plan got to do with the North South Bypass Tunnel (NSBT)?

The Regional Plan will include an Infrastructure Plan – in which 'regionally significant' infrastructure will be identified.

We understand that a large number of transport infrastructure projects are to be identified in the Regional Infrastrucuture Plan and it will include tunnels and the NSBT.

If the NSBT has been identified is a 'regionally significant' piece of the transport infrastructure this has been done assuming the 4.7k underground road tunnel:

    • will solve transport congestion,
    • will not have a long-term significant impact on air quality and public health.
    • and is  the best value for money solution.

It is important that OUM get the message that:

  • The NSBT is not the right solution for Brisbane. and
  • that we cannot rely on ‘building our way out of congestion’.

You need to be aware that OUM propose to finalise the Infrastructure Plan by April 2005. About the same time that Brisbane City Council are advising community members they ‘expect’ to be calling for tenders to build the NSBT.
